Still parked atop both of the state Class A rankings, the cross country teams from Fayetteville-Manlius moved on from their twin titles in the Sept. 16 Wayne Invitational and found more success closer to home.
At Camillus Middle School last Wednesday afternoon, the Hornets swept West Genesee, with the girls prevailing 18-43 and the boys beating the Wildcats
In the girls race, it was close at the front, with Phoebe White, in a time of 19:04, edging Sophia Ryan (19:06) and Claire Walters (19:07), the F-M trio just ahead of WG’s Carly Benson, who finished fourth in 19:14.
The Wildcats also had Emily Young take sixth place in 19:36, but that trailed the Hornets’ Rebecca Walters, who was fourth in 19:17. Grace Kaercher got seventh place in 19:53 ahead of Isabell Crovella (20:24), Palmer Madsen (20:54) and Alex Villalba, who was 10th in 20:57.
As for the F-M boys team, it prevailed 15-45 over West Genesee, earning a clean sweep of the top five by having its best runners stay together. Peyton Geehrer finished in 17:03, while Jack Duncanson, Ben Otis and Sam Otis each posted 17:04 and Matt Tripp had a time of 17:10. Max Perry added an eighth-place finish in 17:25.
Jamesville-DeWitt, who sits at no. 14 in the girls state Class B rankings, won again last Tuesday, going to Oswego and putting together a 22-33 victory over the Buccaneers to improve to 5-0 in the SCAC Empire division.
Though Oswego’s Molly Fitzgibbons won the individual race in 19:54, J-D claimed the next three spots led by Maddie Foss, who was second in 20:19. Abby Palin, in 22:24, beat out Abigail Leavitt (22:25) for third place. Then Ayla Erwin finished sixth in 23:24 ahead of Amelia Gilbert (23:24.5) and Lily Dougherty (23:25), with Stella Heflin finishing in 24 minutes flat and Sam Aitkens posting 24:19.
In the boys race, J-D handled Oswego 15-49, with Kaleel Boykins going 18:19.1 to finish just ahead of Luke Hobika (18:20.8) and win the individual race. Sam Glisson got third place in 18:30.9.
The Rams had a top-six sweep, as Nick Mannion finished fourth in 18:46.2, followed by Ahviere Reese (18:47.0) and Collin Revercomb (18:59.6). Fidel Martinez took eighth place in 19:06.4 ahead of Alan Gao (19:19) and Nate Rindfuss (19:25.5).
Bishop Grimes faced Cato-Meridian last Wednesday, and held up well on the girls side despite a 23-32 loss to the Blue Devils.
Alicia Kelly finished third in 26:36 behind the Blue Devils’ Megan Cady (23:15) and Lydia Cox (24:56), with Nell DeChick getting fourth place in 27:14. Three other Cobras had top-10 finishes as Julia Avery was seventh in 28:45, Sarah Cone was ninth (29:50) and Jaideen Ealionardo was 10th in 31:21.
