Once again backing up its state Class C no. 4 ranking, the Christian Brothers Academy girls cross country team claimed four of the top six spots and swept to the Small School division title at last Saturday’s 66th annual Baldwinsville Invitational.
The Brothers finished with 25 points, well clear of runner-up Waterloo (81 points) and everyone else in the 23-team field, and Olivia Morganti won her second straight large-scale race to go with her East Syracuse Minoa Invitational title from the week before.
Morganti, in 18 minutes, 35.4 seconds, covered the 2.9-mile Durgee Junior High School course and pulled away from teammate Deja Jones, who was second in 18:46.4. Claire Bargabos got fourth place in 19:18.2 as Bri Pucci finished sixth in 19:19.1, with Cory Knox 12th in 19:42.6, beating out Lea Kyle (19:42.7), who got 13th place.
In that same girls Small School race, Bishop Grimes competed, with Alicia Kelley leading the Cobras’ efforts thanks to her time of 23:47 flat.
As for the Large School girls division at B’ville, Jamesville-DeWitt finished third, with 101 points, behind the host Bees (65 points) and Ithaca (79 points), with East Syracuse Minoa getting 20th place.
For the Red Rams, Sophia Vinciguerra finished sixth, in 18:53.8, with Madeline Foss taking seventh place in 19:12.2. Abby Palin made it to 15th place in 19:43.1 as Abby Leavitt finished 34th in 20:46.4 and Ayla Erwin (21:01.4) got 39th place. Mary Roach paced ESM as she finished 74th in 22:05.3.
J-D and ESM were also part of the boys Large School race at B’ville, with the Red Rams sixth out of 21 teams and the Spartans ninth, mostly on the strength of Nick Berg making his way to 13th place in a time of 16:04.5.
No J-D runner did as well as Berg, but Kaleel Boykins still finished 21st in 16:25.9, with Luke Hobika taking 33rd place in 16:46.9, two spots ahead of ESM’s Nolan Byrd (16:51.3) in 33rd place. The Rams also had Nick Mannion 39th in 16:59 flat and Ahviere Reese 40th in 16:59.6 ahead of Alan Gao (17:19.9) as the Spartans’ David Rivers was 41st in 17:00.6.
CBA finished 22nd in the boys Small School division, with Riley Nash taking 31st place in 17:06.7 for the Brothers and Zach Medicis finishing 40th in 17:22.4.
