Unbeaten in August, the Cicero-North Syracuse Blue boys golf team found things a lot more difficult following the Labor Day weekend.
Though other matches last Tuesday were rained out, the Northstars did play against Fayetteville-Manlius at Northern Pines, and put up solid scores, yet still lost, 189-198, to the fast-improving Hornets.
Andrew Brunozzi shot 37 for nine holes, one shot behind F-M teammates Kyle Gilroy and Sam DiChrsitina. Jake Nardozza had a 39, but the Hornets’ Sean Arthur (38) topped it and Cal Isley matched it. C-NS Blue could not catch up despite 40s from Brendan Villnave and Chase Hurley, plus 42s from Justin Pellegrino and Ben Haven.
Another close, tough match followed on Friday as C-NS Blue faced Baldwinsville at Timber Banks. Again, the team’s all-around play was solid, but again it did not pay off as the Northstars fell to the Bees 203-206.
Villnave shot the low individual round of 38, one ahead of B’ville’s Maxwell Dec. Pellegrino posted a 41, but it was matched by the Bees’ Matt Shipman and Trevor Tooke, while Ben Donohue went lower with a 40.
Then Dan Reiser clinched the B’ville victory with his solid 42, which equaled the scores of Nardozza and Hurley and bettered Ryan Sisco’s 43. The Bees’ Ryan Fecco wasn’t far behind, either, finishing his day with a 44, the same as Brunozzi. Carson Carrino finished with a 48.
C-NS Green would return to action last Wednesday and take a 181-222 defeat to Baldwinsville at Timber Banks. Pat Cuddy shot a 39 for the Northstars, but that trailed the Bees’ quartet of Maxwell Dec, Ben Donohue (35 each), Dan Reiser and Ryan Fecco (36 each). Brian Pellegrino had a 42 and Austin Alberici contributed a 45.
Amid all this, Liverpool played last Thursday and defeated Syracuse 194-218. Spencer Baum tore up Liverpool Country Club with a 32, while Dylan Husted contributed a 39 to tie Syracuse’s Josh Williams for second place. Tyler Leatherwood and Lukas McIlroy both finished with 40 as Brandon Exner posted a 43.
