In the coldest conditions of the season last Monday afternoon, Chittenango’s track and field teams battled through chilly conditions to sweep Pulaski, prevailing 114-27 on the boys side and beating the Blue Devils 90-41 in the girls meet.
Nick Stanton again led the boys Bears, as he took the 100-meter dash in 12 seconds flat and rolled to first place in the 400-meter dash in 57.4 seconds, holding off Phillip Abell (57.5) in the latter race. Then Stanton completed the sprint sweep by covering 200 meters in 24.8 seconds.
Jacob Blaszkow, in 4:55.3, edged Ersilio Cerminaro (4:56.5) and Mike Capeling (4:59.7) in the mile, but Capeling would win the 800-meter run in 2:12.09 and Cerminaro would get his turn in the 3,200-meter run, prevailing in 10:50.2.
Devin Myers was first in the 110 high hurdles in 18.6 seconds, with Warren Tedford second, and then Myers took the 400 hurdles in 1:05.5 with Lucas Spiridilozzi second in 1:06.8. A third title came when Myers won the triple jump,
Dylan Price (second in the 800), Caleb Prenoveau, Caleb Seale and Brian Schermerhorn ran the 4×800 relay in 9:14 flat. Price and Prenoveau would return to help Abell and Capeling win the 4×400 relay in 3:55.2.
Diego Prado threw the discus 103’6” to win that event and was second in the shot put behind Trevor Conklyn, who won with 41’1 ½”. Wesley Stanton had a top long jump of 18’8” as Abell, clearing 9 feet, won the pole vault.
For the Chittenango girls, who won its first meet of the season following an 0-3 start, McKenzie Dombroski would claim the 400 sprint in 1:08.3 and add a second title in the 3,000-meter run in 12:28.4.
Emily Moon took the 800 in 2:46.2 and earned a first-place long jump of 14’4 ½. Alyssa Kolb, second in the long jump, needed 14.4 seconds to take the 100 sprint and won the triple jump by going 28’5” to edge Moon in second place.
Mekenzie Dahlin, third in the 400, won the 200 in 31.7 seconds. Aaliyah Emad tied for the top spot in the high jump, clearing 4’4”. Kendra Moore was first in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.2 seconds, while Mia Morgillo, who was third in the long jump, won the 400 hurdles in 1:21.9 before helping Kolb, Emad and Nicole Bruno take the 4×100 relay in 58.3 seconds.
McKayla Capeling beat the field in the 1,500-meter run in 5:45.0, Jada Sowich, Anna Mulholland and Ashley Kovach took the 4×800 in 11:53.8, while in the 4×400 team of Capeling, Moon, Emad and Emma Bailey took the 4×400 in 5:30.01.
Each of the Chittenango sides would travel to Friday’s Oneida Invitational, where the boys Bears tied for seventh in a 22-team field with 32 points as Nottingham won with 63 points.
In the 4×800, the Bears’ quartet of Price, Prenoveau, Schermerhorn and Seale were second in 8:47.49 to Homer’s winning 8:42.72. Stanton had a third-place time of 52.96 seconds in the 400 sprint, while also finishing eighth in the long jump.
Mike Capeling made it to fourth place in the 3,200 in 9:59.25. Myers took his turn in the pentathlon and accumulated 2,217 points to finish fourth. Cerminaro got seventh place in the mile in 4:50.77 as the Bears finished eighth (3:48.77) in the 4×400. Conklyn was fifth in the shot put, throwing it 40’11 ¼”.
Meanwhile, the Chittenango girls had Chelsea Lamphere run 1,500 meters in 5:04.91 to make it to fourth place. McKayla Capeling joined Dombroski, Dahlin and Moon for fourth place in the 4×800 in 10:35.22.
Kendria Moore finished sixth in the 100 hurdles in exactly 18 seconds. Kolb got eighth place in the triple jump and Emad tied for eighth in the high jump as McKayla Capeling gained ninth place in the 800, while Dombroski was 11th in the 3,000, Moon took 11th in the long jump. Kolb helped Chittenango get ninth place in the 4×100 in 56.06 seconds.
