All was now in place for the Skaneateles girls track and field team to clash with Cazenovia at Buckley-Volo Field with the Onondaga High School League Liberty Central division regular-season championship at stake.
The Lakers’ final league meet before going to Cazenovia resulted last Tuesday in a rare shutout, Skaneateles defeating Institute of Technology Central 120-0 and giving many different athletes a chance to step up and produce.
Raenah Campbell went 16.1 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles to pull away and win, with Sierra Sander second and Bella Capozza third. Later, in the 400-meter hurdles, Campbell prevailed again in 1:12 flat, again having Sanders (1:16.2) finish second and Brady Iles take third place.
A third title for Campbell was earned in the 200-meter dash as she edged Angela Krause, 26.8 seconds to 26.9, while Maddie Peterson (27.3) was third.
Shannan Roberts was first in the 100-meter dash in 13.4 seconds ahead of Angelina Reese and Melissa Biver, who both posted 14 seconds flat. Then Roberts added a 400-meter dash title in 1:03.1 to beat out Julia Willcox (1:03.8) for top honors.
Natalie Condon needed 5:27.3 to take the 1,500-meter run, with Nicole DeRosa second in 5:45 flat, and then Condon was victorious in the 800-meter run in 2:40.8, ahead of DeRosa (2:48.6) again claiming the runner-up spot. Georgia McSwain was first in the 3,000-meter run in 12:21.1.
Becca Rottger swept the throwing events, as her shot put toss of 25 1 ½” beat the field before a winning discus throw of 84’10” was enough to hold off Ali Grant (83’6”) and Katherine Carlile (83’2”). Grant was second in the shot put, with Nieve Morse third.
Lyda Buck, with a long jump of 13’3”, beat out Summer Simmons (12’9”) for first place, and would also clear 4’2” to take the high jump. Chloe Metz earned a first-place triple jump of 25’11”.
In the 4×800 relay, Willcox, Grasso, Iles and Katie Olsen (who was third in the 800) finished in 11:02.8. Grasso, Angela Krause, Emme Conan and Maddie Peterson went 52.2 seconds in the 4×400 as Condon joined Willcox, Peterson and Biver to go 4:42.5 in the 4×400.
Skaneateles also won the boys side of its meet with ITC, prevailing by a 96-31 margin with help from Chase Corcoran, who threw the discus 133 feet 11 inches and added a victory in the shot put by going 39 feet.
Ryan Willcox had a top triple jump of 34’2”, with Luca Kunz clearing 5’2” in the high jump. Alex Van Riper would have a first-place long jump of 18’8” to beat Cross Bianchi (18 feet), who did prevail in the 100 sprint in 11.9 seconds to Matt Leveroni’s 12.1.
Sam McClintic edged Ben Kringer, 2;18.8 to 2:20 flat, in the 800, with Luke Rathgeb taking the mile in 5:16.2 as Calvin Blackwell won the 400 sprint in 56.4 seconds. Nick Paciorek, second in the 400 hurdles, won the 3,200-meter run in 12:07 to Tony DiRubbo’s 12:08. Nicola Kunz was second in the 110 high hurdles.
