On the brink of sweeping through the entire Onondaga High School League Freedom National division, the Jamesville-DeWitt track and field teams rolled past Homer last Wednesday afternoon, prevailing 102-39 on the girls side and 100-41 over the Trojans on the boys side.
Fresh off her pentathlon victory at the April 28 Chittenango Invitational, Alexandria Payne led the J-D girls by claiming the 100-meter dash in 12.5 seconds and tearing through the 100-meter hurdles in 15.2 seconds. Then Payne won the 200-meter dash in 26.2 seconds.
Sarah Hildreth, in 1:06 flat, held off Janna VanVrank (1:06.6) in the 400-meter dash, with Hildreth joining Payne, Cara Glazier and K Sullivan to run the 4×400 relay in 4:49.7 and also helping the Rams’ 4×100 relay side prevail in 54.1 seconds.
Hannah Butler got under five minutes in the 1,500-meter run, prevailing in 4:55.7. Abby Palin won the 3,000-meter run in 11:28.8. Grace Bridge needed 2:40.1 to beat Olivia Budelmann (2:43.2) at 800 meters. Alicia Salbert, Abby Palin, Grace Bridge and Sophia Vinciguerra went 10:49.3 in the 4×800 relay.
Laetticia Bazile cleared 4 feet 8 inches to win the high jump over Monica Hernandez (4’6”) and Lauren Saletsky (4’4”), while Gabrielle Tanksley managed to top 10 feet in the pole vault. Lauren Nandal took the shot put, throwing it 28’8”, while also getting second place in the discus. Ailish McDevitt was second in the triple jump, going 27’10.
Moving to the boys meet, Henry Middleton unloaded in the discus with a winning throw of 106’9” to beat Jack Esposito (96’2”) as he added a winning shot put toss of 37’1”. Trey Greene won the long jump, going 19’ ¼”, and was second in the high jump while Donovan Coughlin took the triple jump (37’10 ½”)
David Fikhman and Joey Aremnta lost a close 100 sprint, both finishing in 11.2 seconds to the 11.1 of Homer’s Matt Guerra, but Armenta did win the 200 in 23 seconds flat and Fikhman, second in the 200 in 23.1 seconds, took the 400 sprint in 51.4 seconds over Mike Potamianos (52.4), with Armenta third. J-D won the 4×400 in 3:39.1.
Patrick Dye was second in the mile in 4:39.7 behind Homer’s Grant Stokoe (4:36.6), but helped Kaleel Boykins, Fidel Martinez and Sam Glisson take the 4×800 in 8:33.6. Trey Greene, Murad Amurlayev, Mike Anderson and Seth Blair won the 4×100 in 45.5 seconds.
Ryan Bradford claimed the 110 hurdles in 15.8 seconds over Alex Carbacio (16.3), just as Alex Le cleared 11 feet in the pole vault to beat Chris Blust and Ben MacCrindle, who both topped 10 feet. Markos Petkopoulos was second in the 400 hurdles in 1:05.8 and triple jump with 36’1 ¾”, with Luke Hobika second in the 3,200-meter run in 10:29.8.
East Syracuse Minoa’s boys team also competed on Wednesday, beating Auburn 107-34 in the boys meet as Greg Buck led a Spartans sweep of field events, clearing 5’10” in the high jump and going 18’8” in the long jump.
Gabe Holloman threw the shot put 43’9” and Gavin Stevens had a winning discus toss of 117 feet, while Jesse Hodge cleared 9 feet in the pole vault and Hunter Bruner had a top triple jump of 37’4”.
Isaiah Brooks went 15.5 seconds in the 110 hurdles and helped ESM win the 4×100 in 46.7 seconds, with Connor Hillman taking the 400 hurdles in 1:20 flat. Jared Henry won the 800 in 2:14.4 as Nick Berg took the 3,200 in 10:28.5 and Zach Berg won the mile in 4:58.4.
The girls meet had a similar outcome and nearly a similar score, ESM handling Auburn 107-33
Mackenzie Bourdon took the 100 hurdles in 17.3 seconds, and followed up by rolling to first place in the 400 hurdles in 1:24 flat. Sara Bourdon joined in with a winning shot put toss of 31’4”.
Sami Wysocki, in 13.1 seconds, edged Mia Montgomery (13.2) and Marissa Greiner (13.4) in the 100 sprint and also claimed the 200 in 27.8 second. Wysocki, Montgomery, Greiner and Kaylee DeLucia took the 4×100 in 53.4 seconds, and Wysocki and Bourdon helped Kat Boland and Jacinta Hensinger win the 4×400 in 4:39.2.
Montgomery did prevail in the triple jump, going 33’11” as Maria Markert (29’7 ¾’) was second and Jennah Ferrari was third before her victory in the pole vault, where Ferrari cleared 7’6”. Maria Hall had a winning long jump of 14’6” and Lindsey Crego threw the shot put 86’3”.
DeLucia was third in the 200 as Lashae Benjamin finished second in 28.5 seconds. Runner-up finishes also went to Boland in the 400 sprint, Sara Tingley in the 3,000 and Megan Volz in the 1,500.
Both of the ESM sides will duel with Central Square this week, deciding the OHSL Freedom American division regular-season titles.
