For at least one afternoon, and one match, the Liverpool girls golf team got the upper hand on Cicero-North Syracuse.
It came during a head-to-head clash last Wednesday at Northern Pines, where the Warriors, led by the sister tandem of Natalya and Mia Avotins, pulled off a 194-197 victory over the Northstars.
In the race for individual honors, Natalya Avotins shot a nine-hole score of 40, while Sololmia Avotins had a 42. This gave Liverpool a cushion since the lowest C-NS round was a 44 shot by Nessa McKie.
But it took Hannah Dombroski shooting a 55 and Aliah Debejian contributing a 57 for the Warriors to hang on against a C-NS squad that had Morgan Siechen, Abby Ainsworth and Lexi Miller each finish with 51.
All of this followed last Monday’s match that pitted C-NS against first-place Fayetteville-Manlius, where the Hornets broke its own year-old team scoring record by shooting 165 to outclass the Northstars, who still posted a strong score of 188.
McKie had a 42, but F-M’s Maggie Bonomo and Mackenzie Kingsley both topped her, Bonomo shooting a 38 and Kingsley a 39. Meanwhile, Siechen shot a 46, just ahead of Ainsworth (48) and Amy Krohl (52) as the Hornets got matching rounds of 44 from Justine Burness and Bailey Wallace.
Liverpool built off the momentum of the win over C-NS and prevailed, 193-217, over Baldwinsville on Friday afternoon. Here, Sololmia Avotins led the way, with a 37 at Liverpool Country Club as Natalya Avotins managed a 45 and Debejian added a 51 ahead of the Bees’ Emma Brushingham (53). Julia Commane shot a 60.
