Though the road trip the Skaneateles girls track and field team took to Tuesday’s Westhill-Bishop Ludden Spring Break Invitational was shorter than many taken by students the week after Easter, it sure proved more rewarding.
The Lakers were successful in multiple events, even if it didn’t count for any points. If so, 18 of them would have come from the 200-meter dash, where Mia Grasso won in 27.14 seconds, beating out Shannan Roberts, who was second in 27.37 seconds as Brady Iles (28.35 seconds) finished eighth.
Juila Willcox had her big moment in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:23.19 to win by more than three seconds over Clinton’s Gabrielle Dewhurst (2:36.19) and the field. Then, in the 4×400 relay, Roberts, Grasso, Iles and Natalie Condon posted 4:10.18 to hold off Jordan-Elbridge (4:11.12) for the top spot.
Natalie Condon needed 5:09.63 to gain seventh place in the 1,500-meter run. Maddy Brogan (8:40.49) and Georgia McSwain (8:43.18) were eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Katherine Carlile threw the discus 83 feet 7 inches, finishing second behind Holland Patent’s Elly Marsden (88’7”) as Ali Grant took third place with a heave of 81’10” and another Laker, Edan Howard, finished eighth. Grant also was 12th in the shot put.
In the boys meet, Luke Rathgeb had a solid showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing fifth in 11:01.73, while also taking 19th place in the mile. Alex Wulff had an eighth-place time of 2:13.41 in the 800.
Max Moss made it to 10th place in the high jump, clearing 5’4” as Brahm Malcolm was 12th. Matt Leveroni was 14th in the 100-meter dash in 12.31 seconds. Ryan Willcox got 13th place in the triple jump and tied for 14th in the high jump.
