Before heading off to the Easter school break, the East Syracuse Minoa and Fayetteville-Manlius track and field teams continued to add to their early-season win totals.
ESM had started the week hosting its own Specialty Qualifying Invitational, and earned a handful of victories. Isaiah Brooks prevailed twice on the boys side, sprinting to first in the 110 high hurdles in 15.95 seconds and clearing 6 feet to take the high jump.
Gavin Stevens would earn a second-place discus throw of 126’6”, while Brendan Reed finished fourth (114’9”), Zach Berg sixth and Emir Karic seventh. Gabe Holloman stepped up in the shot put, gaining third place by going 41’11” as Ameer Ladd (39’11 ½”) was fifth.
Jared Henry contended in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, ultimately grabbing second place in 10:55.30. Brooks, David Agans, Cody Laroche and Alec Kerestejian were third (47.27 seconds) in the 4×100 relay. Jesse Hodge and Nate Andrus tied for fifth in the pole vault.
On the girls side, ESM’s Mia Montgomery did a lot, including a win in the triple jump by going 35’1 ¼”. She also finished second in the long jump with 15’2 ½” as Sami Wysocki got fourth place. Lindsey Crego claimed the discus with a toss of 110’3” and was second in the shot put, going 29 feet.
Mackenzie Bourdon, fourth in the discus, claimed the 100 hurdles in 17.71 seconds. Montgomery. Wysocki, Lashae Benjamin and Kaylee Delucia finished third in the 4×100 relay in 52.49 seconds as Jennah Ferrari was second in the high jump, clearing 5 feet. Alexis Garn was fourth in the pole vault.
Then, in a head-to-head meet with Fulton, ESM gained a sweep. The boys won, 105-36, over the Red Raiders, as Brooks sped to first in the 110 hurdles in 15.6 seconds and cleared 5’4” for first place in the high jump.
Hunter Bruner, second in the high jump to Brooks, had his own double, winning the long jump by going 18’10 ¾” and then getting a top triple jump of 37’10 ½” as Alex Kubecka (35’9”) was second.
Holloman threw the shot put 40’2” to beat Ladd (39’10”) and Karic (36’9 ½”), while in the discus Stevens had a throw of 127 feet to beat Karic (114’6 ½”) and Reed (107’11”). Tyler Hodge was first in the 400 sprint in 56.8 seconds and helped the 4×400 team win in 3:52.9, with Jesse Hodge clearing 9 feet to win the pole vault.
In the girls Spartans’ 128-12 victory over Fulton, Ferrari won three times in field events. Clearing 6’6” in the pole vault, Ferrari went on to top 4’6” to win the high jump and earn a top triple jump of 29’4 ¼”.
Mackenzie Bourdon won the 100 hurdles in 18.4 seconds, adding a 400 hurdles title in 1:19.1 as Sara Bourdon threw the shot put 29’1 ¾” to prevail and Crego had a top discus throw of 101’1”.
Benjamin and Marissa Greiner matched each other in the 100 sprint, both finishing in 13.2 seconds. Marina Lopez and Sage Almstead tied for first in the 1,500, with Lopez taking the 3,000 in 13:28 over Sarah Tingley (13:29) as Wysocki won the 200 in 28.1 seconds and finished second in the long jump.
Kassandra Burr went 2:43 flat in the 800 to beat out Melanie DeFeo (2:47.1). Kat Boland was first in the 400 sprint in 1:08.4. ESM also swept the 4×100 (53.8 seconds), 4×400 (4:53.6) and 4×800 (11:34.5) relays as Maria Hall went 14’1 ¾” in the long jump.
F-M, for its part, faced Henninger, and handled the Black Knights 93-39 on the girls side. Cady Barns got first place in the 100 sprint in 13.4 seconds and added a title in the 200 in 27.9 seconds, later prevailing in the triple jump by going 33’1”.
Sophia Ryan covered the 1,500 in 4:52.0 and went 3,000 meters in 10:11, with Phoebe White taking the 800 in 2:19.0 and helping the Hornets’ 4×400 relay team, too, with Ryan, Grace Perry, Alex Villalba and Claire Walters winning the 4×800.
Gwen Shepardson was first in the 100 hurdles in 17.3 seconds and took the victory in the 400 hurdles in 1:15 flat. as Palmer Madsen needed 59.2 seconds to win the 400 sprint as Grace Hausladen cleared 4’8” in the high jump.
In the boys Hornets’ 88-53 win over Henninger, Deion Travis won twice in field events, claiming the shot put with a toss of 37’1” and adding a discus title as Ryan Kaczorowski went 38’10 ½” in the triple jump.
Max Perry sped to first place in the mile in 4:41.4, adding a title in the 800 in 2:04.6 as Stefen Mina took the 400 hurdles in 1:02.4. Joe Walters won the 3,200 in 10:15.0 as Mina was part of the Hornets’ top 4×400 effort in 4:01.1.
In the OHSL Liberty division, Christian Brothers Academy took on Institute of Technology Central. It was a close girls meet, but the Brothers took a 67-62 defeat to the Eagles. The CBA boys lost 101-17 as Dominic Morganti claimed the 3,200 in 10:21.1 and helped the 4×800 side prevail in 9:34.1
Bishop Grimes lost its girls meets to Tully (119-13) and Syracuse Academy of Science (66-32), while in the boys meet the Cobras did beat the Atoms 74-47 while falling to the Black Knights 92-43.
Winning some events in the boys meet, Chris Larson claimed the 800 in 2:18.01 and was second in the mile, while Nigel Dufus threw the shot put 41’10 ½” and the discus 100’9” to prevail there. Nathan Gay cleared 5’8” in the high jump and helped the Cobras’ 4×400 side win in 4:01.3.
Manlius-Pebble Hill lost both sides of its boys meet with Cato-Meridian and Faith Heritage, falling 139-4 to the Blue Devils and 116-12 to the Saints.
