Proving quite impressive in its opening CNY Counties League meet of the spring, the Baldwinsville track and field teams pulled off a sweep of West Genesee last Wednesday at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium.
In the boys meet, the Bees whipped the Wildcats 106-34, beginning its effort in the 4×800 relay, where Connor McManus, John Kresovich, John Licciardello and Evan Biedermann prevailed in nine minutes, 8.50 seconds.
Jack Buis edged Greg Porceng, 11.44 seconds to 11.49, in the 100-meter dash and Porceng won the 200-meter dash in 23.08 seconds, with Buis, Porceng, Justin Goodridge and Tyler Luciano taking the 4×100 relay in 45.18 seconds.
Kieran Sheridan roared to first place in the 400-meter dash in 51.16 seconds over Evan Vannatta (52.03) and Mike Lawrence (53.78). In the 4×400 relay, Lawrence, Sheridan, Luciano and Garrett Vannatta were victorious in 3:41.64.
Adam Davis ran the mile in 4:38.30, beating out Ben Timmons (4:40 flat) and Garrett Vannatta (4:50.60) in a 1-2-3 B’ville sweep. Kenneth Stehle dominated the 400 hurdles, winning in 56.57 seconds as Goodridge (1:01.14) was far back in second place.
Moving to field events, Gabe Horan threw the shot put 47 feet 6 inches to win as Alex Garcia (41 feet) was third. Judson Fletcher’s discus throw of 121’6” was just behind WG’s Evan Tuthill (122’9”) as Horan was third with 112’2”.
Austin Catalano won the triple jump, going 38’5” to hold off the Wildcats’ Griffin Dombroske (38’2”), while Luciano went 19’3” in the long jump to beat Catalano’s 19-foot effort. Kevin Starr cleared 5’8” and won the high jump as Tim DemJanenko topped 5’4” for second place.
Though the girls meet was closer, B’ville still defeated West Genesee 77-63, with Adrianna Straughter at the forefront. Straughter went 16.60 seconds to beat Shylea Dukat (17.92) in the 100-meter hurdles, and then cleared 5 feet to win the high jump.
Dukat took he 400-meter hurdles, edging WG’s Megan Delia, 1:08.08 to 1:08.85 as Mackenzie Wodka finished third. Lauren Addario held off Karen Ekure, 12.87 seconds to 13.03, in the 100 sprint, with Addario and Ekure joining Dukat and Kathryn Weaver as B’ville won the 4×100 relay in 51.62 seconds.
In the 200, Ekure won in 26.52 seconds, with Addario second in 27.38 seconds. Danielle Marsell went 78’9” to beat Jenna Wallace (76’9”) in the discus, with Marsell third in the shot put. Jordyn Boutilier had a top long jump of 15’3” as Marina Blasi was second, going 14’2”. Weaver and Maya Hewitt both cleared 7’6” in the pole vault.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth Fawwaz was second in the 3,000-meter run in 11:15.64, with Leah Carpenter third in 11:43.10 as Justus Holden-Betts got third place in the both the 800 and 1,500-meter runs.
Two days earlier, the B’ville girls had taken on Nottingham, having little trouble as the Bees prevailed 125-31 over the Bulldogs in a single meet as the boys would face Nottingham Tuesday during the school break.
Straughter went from prevailing in the high jump to going 16.0 seconds in the 100 hurdles. Addario needed 12.8 seconds to prevail in the 100 sprint and, in the triple jump, unleashed a top attempt of 35’2”.
Holden-Betts would claim the 800 in 2:34.5, this after a first-place finish in the 1,500. Fawwaz was first in the 3,000-meter run in 12:34.5 as Ekure went 26.1 seconds in the 200-meter dash and Shylea Dukat beat the field in the 400 hurdles.
As part of B’ville sweep in field events, Boutilier was victorious in the long jump, going 14’8”, while Wallace threw the discus 90’4” and Marsell tossed the shot put 28’5” for another title.
