Though the CNY Counties League and Section III Class AA meets loomed at the start of February, the Baldwinsville indoor track and field teams did not relax too much in the last days of January.
Instead, the Bees would go to Utica College’s Hutton Dome for last Friday night’s Utica Challenge Invitational, where it picked up 28 points to tie for ninth in a 31-team boys field and also finished ninth on the girls side, earning 27 points. Liverpool won both divisions.
On the girls side, B’ville was victorious in the 4×200 relay, where Lauren Addario, Maria Henwood, Karen Ekure and Katie Weaver finished in one minute, 48.93 seconds to edge Liverpool (1:49.35) for that top spot.
Anna Demer gained third place in the 600-meter run in 1:41.15, not far from the winning time of 1:39.10 posted by Colonie’s Marilyn O’Brien. Addario made it to third place in the triple jump, going 34 feet 4 ½ inches. Danielle Marsell made it to fourth place in the weight throw with a top toss of 33’4 ¼”.
Leah Carpenter was 10th in the 3,000-meter run in 11:30.40 and 15th in the 800-meter run, while Patricia Conlan got 15th place (3:20.90) in the 1,000-meter run and Elizabeth Fawwaz matched that 15th-place finish in the 1,500-meter run in 5:20.21. Conlan, Fawwaz, Makayla Spicer and Sarah Rodman were 10th in the 4×800 relay in 10:44.43 as Allyson Surowick took 19th place in the 55-meter hurdles.
Nearly prevailing in its 4×200 relay, the B’ville boys quartet of Tyler Luciano, Evan DaPrano, Justin Goodridge and Greg Porceng finish in 1:35.33, second only to Cicero-North Syracuse’s winning time of 1:33.30.
B’ville also had Kenny Stehle, Michael Lawrence, Josh Scholten and Hudson Miller get to fifth place in the 4×400 relay in 3:39.01. Stehle finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.77 seconds, while Luciano got fifth place in the 300-meter dash in 37.39 seconds and was 12th in the long jump, going 19’3”. Scholten finished 11th (5’4”) in the high jump.
Judson Fletcher threw the shot put 44 feet 1 inch and took fourth place, adding a sixth-place weight throw of 46’8 ½”. Garrett Vannatta was ninth in the 1,000-meter run in 2:46.78, just out of the points.
Austin Catalano was10th in the long jump, going 19’7, and was 16th in the 55-meter dash, while Sam Kellner was 21st in the 800-meter run. Jaeho Lee and Mike Lagana each cleared 9’6” to tie for 12th in the pole vault.
