An extra half-point would allow the Cicero-North Syracuse girls track and field team to emerge with a victory from last Saturday’s afternoon session of the Jack Morse Kickoff Meet at SRC Arena, with Liverpool in close pursuit.
The close girls meet saw the Northstars earn 86.5 points to edge Cazenovia, who was second with 86 points, while the Warriors were third with 81 points. C-NS won the girls 4×400 relay, havina Annina Marullo, Abbey Szumloz, Lauren Witek and Ashlyn Slate post a time of four minutes, 28.71 seconds to beat out Liverpool as Anne Gullo, Kaitlynn Luong, Megan Merola and Abby Haley got second place in 4:32.49.
Later, in the 4×200 relay, Amanda Reilly, Sierra Davis, Ariana Lazendic and Kyra Barnett posted 1:57.07 to beat Cazenovia (1:58.26) and the field, which included the Warriors’ Divya Duraisamy, Sophia Prince, Marissa Baskin and Natalie Tauro as they finished fifth in 1:59.89.
In the 1,500-meter run, Mia Pestle won the individual title in 4:55.36, with Pestle, Megan Trubia, Hailee Kolakowski and Leah Bisgrove second in a combined 21:52.18 behind Cazenovia’s 21:20.19, while Liverpool was fifth in 25:06.42.
Shayla Webb, thanks to her winning triple jump of 36’ ½”, helped Liliana Klemanski as C-NS claimed this event with leaps of 67’1”, far clear of Liverpool though Marissa Baskin got sixth-place points by herself for Liverpool with her jump of 34’1 ¼”.
Marullo, joined by Sarah Davis, Bailey Lazore and McKenna Bradford, put C-NS in second place in the 1,600 sprint medley relay in 4:38.91 behind J-D’s 4:29.51, while Megan Merola, Kelley Townley, Anne Gullo and Colleen Tifft earning third place in 5:01.53.
Madeline Woods, Jamie Wagner, Maria Marullo and Mia Falgiatano were fourth in the 4×800 relay in 11:01.73, with Liverpool’s quartet of Tifft, Sarah Sedlock, Abby Brancato and Emily Neuner fifth in 11:11.58.
C-NS also saw Cassie Baldwin and Lexi Gaetz finish second (19.65 seconds) to J-D (19.23 seconds) in the 55-meter hurdles, with Baldwin second in 9.08 seconds among individuals behind Red Rams star Alexandria Payne (8.66 seconds) as Luong and Haley were third in 20.11 seconds.
Baldwin and Webb were second in the long jump, going 29’ ¼” between them, again with Cazenovia (29’9 ½”) in front thanks to Maddy Gavitt’s winning leap of 16’7”. The Northstars had Dayna Losito and Julie Phillips get third place (37’5”) in the weight throw
Sweeping through the shot put, the Warriors saw Trinity Gray put up a winning throw of 32 feet 1 inch as she and Sinedu Haley had total throws of 57’ ¾”. The C-NS duo of Dayna Losito and Sarah Freund was fourth with 46’7”.
Then, in the high jump, Megan Milazzo cleared 5’1” as she and Alexis Ostrander combined to top 9’7” to edge J-D by one inch as Klemanski and Baldwin got third place (9’4”) for the Northstars. Kelley Townley cleared 10’6” in the pole vault, far ahead of the field as she and Mackenzie Case, who cleared 8 feet, won the team event.
Liverpool’s Kierra Richardson won the individual 55-meter dash in 7.59 seconds as she and Erin Straub tied Henninger for second place on the team side, each with 15.95 seconds behind East Syracuse Minoa’s 15.82 seconds as C-NS was sixth in 16.32 seconds. Richardson and Townley were third in the long jump, going 28’ ½” between them.
