Two weeks, two home meets – and two victories for the Baldwinsville boys swim team, earned by a combined three points.
The Bees, followed up its 46-45 thriller over Fayetteville-Manlius on Nov. 30 by having much the same thing take place against Mexico a week later at the Baker High School pool, only this time B’ville clinched the win before the final race as it got past the Tigers 48-46.
Nick Schultz was a central figure for the Bees throughout the night, starting in the 200-yard medley relay, where he paired with Evan Bohman, Alex Hiltbrand and Ryan Hiltbrand for a first-place finish in one minute, 47.70 seconds.
In the 200 individual medley, Schultz, in a time of 2:11.78, got away from Mexico’s A.J. Yost (2:14.14) for the top spot as Jonathan Oad finished third in 2:18.33. And in the last individual race, the 100 breaststroke, Schultz won again in 1:04.99 over the Tigers’ John Ocker (1:07.50) to clinch the Bees’ team victory.
Alex Hiltbrand dominated the 100 butterfly, his time of 55.77 seconds nearly five seconds ahead of the field as John Burns was third in 1;02.75. This followed a 50 freestyle where Hiltbrand, in 23.01 seconds, held off Mexico’s Dan Mullen (23.62 seconds) for the top spot.
Ryan Hiltbrand, who was third in the 50 freestyle in 24.02 seconds, was second (52.69 seconds) and Bohman third (56.23 seconds) in the 100 freestyle behind Mexico’s Dan Mullen. Bohman improved to second place in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.45, edged out by Yost (1:01.05) at the line, with Mark Dickson third in 1:07.10.
John Licciardello got second place in the 200 freestyle in 1:56.59, not far behind Mexico’s Dylan Long (1:55.09), and also landed in second place in the 500 freestyle in 5:21.46 behind Long’s 5:13.48. But he was victorious in the 200 freestyle relay, helping Bohman and the Hiltbrand brothers get first place in 1:36.28.
One more home meet, next Wednesday against Fulton, was in store for the Bees before its first road contest Dec. 21 at West Genesee.
