One small bit of business remained for the Cicero-North Syracuse boys volleyball team before it could play the Section III Division I championship match Wednesday night on its home court.
The top-seeded Northstars met no. 4 seed Central Square in last Wednesday night’s semifinal and wasted little time prevailing in a three-set sweep. A 25-12 win in the first set was followed by a 25-15 victory in the second set, and C-NS closed out the Redhawks 25-8 in the third set.
Connor Millias helped everyone thanks to his 33 assists, adding three kills, three aces and five digs. Josh Bigford finished with 10 kills and five digs to pace the Northstars’ front line, while Robert Patzer added seven kills.
Josh Cloute gained four kills as Justin Kegebein, Kyle Alberici and David Delaney joined Millias by earning three kills apiece. Joe D’Agostino got two aces as Tristen Cummings earned three blocks and three digs.
Central Square, in defeat, saw Cooper Colesante earn eight assists and three aces. Bailey Baumbach and Elijah Elmer earned four kills apiece.
In the other sectional semifinal, Baldwinsville defeated Fayetteville-Manlius in four sets, so it’s the Bees against the Northstars in the championship match.
Meanwhile, in the girls volleyball sectional Class AA playoffs, Liverpool, the no. 3 seed, visited no. 2 seed West Genesee last Thursday night to see who would face undefeated B’ville, who like their male counterparts had beaten F-M in four sets in its semifinal.
Having beaten the Wildcats in five sets on Oct. 20, the Warriors were confident it could do the same in Camillus. But WG, remembering how badly it had played two weeks earlier against Liverpool, dominated the first set 25-13, and after a close call in the second set, 25-20, the match ended, 25-16, in the third.
Caitlyn Metrick put together 10 assists, three kills, two aces and two kills. Abby Anderson had six kills, with Karlie King getting four kills and five digs. Sophia Vangelov finished with five assists, three kills and three digs. Katie Boak and Ashley Teixeira had three digs apiece.
To help WG prevail, Sasha Mekker picked up 20 assists, 13 digs and four kills, with Jaylin Mallore getting 17 digs. Carolyn King had a team-best 11 kills and two blocks as Rachel Hillery got seven kills, six digs, two assists and two blocks. Liverpool finished with a 9-4 record.
