Now the area’s cross country teams fanned out in their respective leagues, mostly finding successful outcomes along the way.
Firmly entrenched atop the state Class A rankings again, Fayetteville-Manlius gained an impressive sweep over Cicero-North Syracuse last Wednesday afternoon, the girls with another 15-50 victory and the boys handling the Northstars 15-48.

Max Perry finished second, in 16:52, with Ben Otis getting third place in 16:55. Matt Tripp, in 16:58, beat out Jack Boltman (16:59) and Garrett Boltman (17:00) for fourth place, though they were all ahead of Nathan Poirier (17:57.1) and Sam Barber (17:57.6), who led C-NS. East Syracuse Minoa swept both Fulton and host Oswego, though it proved quite close in the boys meet between the Spartans and Red Raiders. Ultimately, the ESM boys pulled it out, 27-28, over Fulton, avenging its narrow defeat to the Red Raiders in the Sept. 17 ESM Invitational, while also handling Oswego 16-47.
Nick Berg earned the individual title in a time of 17:41, eight seconds ahead of Fulton’s Kenneth Deloff (17:49), while Jared Henry was third in 18:49. Since the Red Raiders’ Isaac Crandall (19:16) and Jossmar Vasquez-Henry (19:24) claimed the next two spots, the Spartans needed Nolan Byrd to finish sixth in 19:30 and David Rivera to grab seventh place in 19:45 in order to pull ahead for good.
On the girls side, ESM handled Fulton 15-50 and held off Oswego 23-37, with Marina Lopez finishing second among individuals in a time of 24:05 behind the Bucs’ Mackenzie Rice (23:19) as Sarah Tingley was third in 24:09 for the Spartans.

Christian Brothers Academy opened its OHSL Liberty division schedule at Jordan-Elbridge, where the girls beat both the host Eagles and Skaneateles by equal 20-37 margins as the boys beat the Lakers 27-29, but fell to the Eagles 21-38 for a split.
In that girls race, Lexi Kyle, in a time of 19:26, beat out Cory Knox (19:27) for second place behind Skaneateles’ Julia Willcox (19:07). Then CBA got a fifth-place time of 19:59 from Deja Jones and clinched it over its two foes by having Claire Bargabos finish seventh in 20:27 and Bri Pucci take eighth place in 20:32.
CBA’s Dominic Morganti, in a time of 17:06, pulled away from J-E’s Hunter Brunelle (17:30) for the individual victory, but the Eagles claimed the third through fifth spots, too, to gain control. Riley Nash finished ninth, inches behind J-E’s Logan Kinney, though both finished in 18:03.
Bishop Grimes won its girls meet over Cato-Meridian 24-25 as Abby Wilkinson, in a time of 22:58, and Sara Hopkins (23:38) pulled off a 1-2 finish. Yet it took solid runs from Nadia Fenu (28:57) and Neil DeChick (29:08) to help the Cobras hold off the Blue Devils.
In the boys meet, which also included a team from Blessed Virgin Mary, Grimes’ Chris Larson finished second in 18:42, just behind Cato’s Logan Carcinelli, who won in 17:47. The Cobras’ John Kane finished ninth in 23:19.
