Even with a fairly difficult schedule that mixes in league matches with tournament action, the Cazenovia girls volleyball team was not content.
So the Lakers added a match early last week against Hamilton, meaning that it would play three times in a span of four nights prior to a key showdown against its fellow Lakers from Skaneateles.
Cazenovia didn’t have much trouble with Hamilton, sweeping the Emerald Knights 25-9, 25-13, 25-8 in a match where 10 different players recorded at least one ace and the team had 27 aces overall.
Molly Carges led with five aces to go with three kills. Ryleigh Tillison had four aces, with Morgan Hodinger, Madison West and Sarah Dickinson each getting three aces. Danielle Tedesco managed four kills as Maleigha Ellithorpe and Delaney Yorks picked up four assists apiece.
A night later, facing Syracuse’s Institute of Technology Central, the Lakers earned another sweep, topping the Eagles 25-12, 25-11, 25-12 as everyone on the roster saw some court time and Mairin Rogers picked up six aces.
Lauren Lyons had eight assists, one more than Ellithorpe’s total. Tedesco got six kills, while Carges had four kills and Joanne Seeley three kills. Madison West and Lauren Burbidge had three aces apiece. Yorks finished with four assists.
The toughest of the three matches appeared to be Thursday’s visit from Solvay, but the Bearcats had struggled this fall, and Cazenovia pounced, dominating the match from start to finish and winning all three sets by equal 25-13 margins.
Tedesco still found time to put away 10 kills, with Dickinson managing six kills and Hodginer contributing five kills, plus seven digs. Ellithorpe handled most of the back-line duties and earned 18 assists, though Lyons added five assists and Yorks three assists. Carges contributed three kills.
After appearing in Saturday’s Baldwinsville Fall Fling Tournament, Cazenovia (5-1) would head back to league action Tuesday at Skaneateles before a Thursday home match against Jordan-Elbridge at Buckley Gym.
