This is proving to be quite a good period for golfers in Baldwinsville.
Tyler McArdell, the pro shop manager at Timber Banks, won the New York State Amateur in Niskayuna on Aug. 11. Less than two weeks later, Baldwinsville’s boys golf team added its own victory to the ledger.
It came in Monday’s season opener, the 15th annual Henninger Invitational at Drumlins Country Club’s East course. While it didn’t enter as the favorite, the Bees exited Drumlins with the top spot.
With a team total of 199, B’ville was six shots clear of defending Section III Class AA champion West Genesee, who finished at 205. Cicero-North Syracuse Blue was third with 207 and Oswego (209) took fourth place.
In the race for individual honors, B’ville’s Ryan Fecco nearly won. He shot a 38 for nine holes at Drumlins, tying Andrew Brunozzi (C-NS Blue) and Trevor Hogan (Auburn) for second place, one shot behind WG’s Dylan Plis, who prevailed with a 37.
Catching up in the team standings, the Bees saw Tim Garraffo and Ben Donahue both shoot 39, a number only one WG golfer (Joe Morgan) matched. Then Maxwell Dec posted a 41 and Trevor Tooke added a 42 to help B’ville prevail. Zach Ravas shot a 46.
There wasn’t much time for B’ville to relax, because it has a head-to-head match with C-NS Blue on Wednesday at Northern Pines and West Genesee on Friday at Westvale.
