The Mixed Ensemble. A Classical Music Performance: Sunday, May 15 at 1:30 p.m. in the Friends Community Room. Featuring musicians: Julie McKinstry, Tom McKay, Alyssa Blount, Brenna Ogilvie, Ian Gallacher and Patine Orcutt Ryu.
Music of Vaughn Williams: Songs from Along the Field, Bach: Cello Suite in G (for viola), Brahms: Clarinet Quintet in B minor as well as other pieces. Open to music lovers of all ages. A meet and greet with the artists will take place following the performance. Refreshments served.
Drop off your unserviceable American Flags at the Marcellus Free Library until May 20, 2016.
Throughout May, Onondaga County public libraries will collect worn, tattered or faded American Flags that need to be respectfully retired. Collected flags will be properly burned at the Memorial Day Watchfire ceremony sponsored by the Central New York Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
The Watchfire ceremony is free and open to the public. It will be held Sunday, May 29 at the New York State Fairgrounds. The pyre and respectful burning of the flags begins at dusk.

Yin Yoga Mondays with Tina Ramsden. May 9, 16, 23 at 9:10 a.m. $7 a session; please bring a yoga mat.
Getting to know the Library Webpage: Wednesday, May 11 at 1 p.m. Registration required at www.mflib.org or call 673-3221. Did you know you can renew books, place book holds, and sign up for an event all from home? You can also read e-books and magazines and take a computer course. This is a hands-on class for learning how to better use the Marcellus Free Library website. Computers will be provided; Please bring your library card and pin number.
Introduction to Genealogy Workshop led by Amanda Perrine. Wednesday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. Registration appreciated at www.mflib.org or call 673-3221.
Would you like to learn more about where your family came from? This class will teach you to start with yourself and then trace your family tree. Using a Central New York family as an example, you will practice filling out pedigree and family group charts, look at census and vital records, see how to use online sites like Ancestry.com (available free at the Marcellus Library!). There will be ample time for questions.
Harry Potter Book Club for all ages! Wednesday, May 25 at 6:30 p.m. Looking forward to the Harry Potter play in July and the movie in November? Read the books with us in preparation! Whether you’ve read them all before or this is your first time, come discuss one book a month, from May through November while enjoying themed treats. May’s book is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. All age groups invited. Costumes not required, but definitely welcome.
Summer Reading Program for Adults
Don’t let the kids have all the fun – join MFL’s first adult summer reading challenge. Weekly prizes and lots of ways to enter, both in person and online. Adult summer reading will run June 1 through August 31. Watch for program materials beginning May 16 in the library and on our website.
The Friends of the Marcellus Free Library Meeting: May 25 at 11:15 a.m. Final plans for Olde Home Days will take place. Please bring a brown bag lunch. Dessert and beverage will be provided.
Wanted: books in good condition for the book sale. Donations accepted until May 27. The book sale will take place on: June 3: 4 to 7 p.m. $5 early bird special, June 4 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 5 1 to 5 p.m.
Look for our Annual Spring Basket Raffle. Our fabulous gift baskets will be on display at the library during the month of May. Raffle tickets may be purchased at the front desk: $1 a ticket, 6 tickets for $5, or 14 for $10. The Friends thank all who donated to the basket raffle.
Marcellus Free Library Summer Reading Program – For the Fun of It! Read…imagine….create. June 27 through August 5. Registration begins Monday, May 30. For children in Preschool through grade five.
Programs for Teens
After School Art Program for Teens: Monday, May 2 and 16, 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. is For ages 11 through 15. Instructed by Courtney Ryfun, Alumna of The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Registration is required at mflib.org or call 673-3221.
Teen Advisory Board Meeting: Wednesday, May 25 at 3:30 p.m. The TAB is a group that helps plan programs and make the library a great place for teens to hang out. There is not need to register and new members are always welcome.
YA Lounge Book Club: Thursday, May 26 at 6:30 p.m. This month’s selection is “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll.
Advanced Robotics: Thursdays, May 12, 19 and 26 at 3:45 p.m. Led by Tristan Wiley. Building on material from previous classes, we will explore more advanced programming techniques with Lego’s Mindstorms Robotics kits.
Open Mic Night hosted by Zoe Osborne: Monday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. A live show where audience members may perform at the microphone. Share your performance art: music, poetry, spoken word or comedy or simply sit in the audience and cheer the performers on. This evening is open to artist of all ages. Refreshments will be served.
