In order to further test itself, each of the Skaneateles indoor track and field teams would travel to New York City and take part in the Molloy Stanner Games, held Jan. 16 at the Armory Track and Field Center.
For the girls Lakers, the main highlight was the 4×200 relay, where it nearly finished on top, posting a time of one minute, 47.92 seconds to finish runner-up behind Hempstead, who won in 1:45.35. Another Lakers side was 11th in that same event in 1:52.09.
Right after that, Skaneateles finished third in the 4×400 relay in 4:20.79, trailing only Half Hollow Hills West (4:09.23) and Niskayuna (4:09.43), while Julia Willcox took part in the 1-mile Run Invitational and gained fifth place in 5:19.69 as Hackley’s Julia Stevenson prevailed in 5:08.08.
Maddie Peterson gained 15th place in the 300-meter dash in 43.22 seconds, with Angela Krause 19th in 43.46 seconds. Olivia Gage finished in 45.28 seconds as Brady Iles did best in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing in 10.57 seconds, ahead of Christina Ciaccio (10.87 seconds).
Mia Grasso, in a time of 1;44.01, was 26th in the 600-meter run. Amanda Wetmore finished 29th in the 55-meter dash in 7.82 seconds, while Cecilia Marrinan was 33rd in 7.83 seconds and Laurel Parker posted 7.95 seconds. Natalie Condon, who ran the 600 in 1;52.56, was 45th in the 1,000-meter run in 3:24.33, ahead of Jillian Van Leer (3:33.44)
Meanwhile, in the boys Molly Stanner meet, Tommy Hagen gave the Lakers a sixth-place finish in the long jump, going 20 feet 7 inches as Anthony Roderick (Hackley School) won with a leap of 22’4 ½”. Hagen’s teammate, Jack Kimm, was 25th with a leap of 18’10”, while Luke Palmer had a top jump of 17’11”.
Elsewhere, Stephen Ciaccio recorded a time of 1:38.39 in the 600-meter run, while Sam McClintic finished in 1:39.14 and Graham McCarthy finished in 1:47.51. Nick Paciorek ran 1,000 meters in a time of 3:22.40. Max Moss (45.20 seconds) finished just ahead of Ryan Willcox (46.30 seconds) in the 300-meter dash.
The Lakers were 29th in the 4×200 relay in 1:45.15. Josh McCabe, in 7.24 seconds, beat out Palmer (7.39 seconds) and Noah Cliff (7.40 seconds) in the 55 sprint, though each won their respective heats, as did Chris Corona, who posted 7.66 seconds as Kevin Danaher finished in 7.55 seconds.
And as it turned out, competing in New York City gave the Lakers more activity that it would have done staying at home, for last Monday’s John Arcaro Invitational was snowed out and will get made up this Sunday, Jan. 31.
But Skaneateles did compete in Saturday’s Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena, and in the morning session earned 56 points in the girls meet to finish third behind Fayetteville-Manlius (104 points) and West Genesee (83 points), with the boys Lakers getting 25 points for eighth place as F-M won there, too.
In the girls 4×200, the Skaneateles quartet of Peterson, Gage, Parker and Katelyn Ellison won in 1:51.14, just ahead of CBA (1:51.63) and the field. In the 4×400, Peterson, Gage, Brady Iles and Christiana Ciacio finished in 4:21.47, getting second place behind West Genesee’s 4:16.88. Condon, Grasso, Van Leer and Nadine Dickter gained fourth place in the 4×800 in 10:51.83.
To complete a sweep of the sprint relays, the boys 4×200 side, which included Hagen, McCabe, Kimm and Palmer, posted a time of 1:39.59, just enough to fend off F-M (1:39.83) and grab the top spot.
Mia Grasso, in the high jump, earned another victory when she cleared 4 feet 10 inches, a height no one else could reach, though Aubreah Lynn was fourth, clearing 4’8”. Wetmore, in 7.67 seconds, was second, just one-hundredth of a second behind CBA’s Kiana Ferguson (7.66 seconds), in the girls 55 sprint final, with Krause getting fourth place in 7.79 seconds.
Cecilia Marrinan got third place in the 300 in 44.68 seconds, while Ellison was fifth in 45.43 seconds. Mikaela Terhune took eighth in the 55 hurdles, with Iles 11th. Condon was eighth in the 600 as Finan Malcolm got ninth place in the 1,000. Krause got 10th place in the long jump and Angela Neuenschwander took ninth place in the shot put, with Nieve Norse 11th.
Moving to the boys side, Hagen was third, in 8:37 seconds, in the 55 hurdles, where B’ville’s Evan Donhauser won in 8.03 seconds. Chase Corcoran, throwing the shoot put 37’6 ½”, earned third place, with Kevin Danahar (37’ ½”) gaining fifth place. Kimm gained sixth place in the 55 sprint in 7.06 seconds and was seventh (18’9”) in the long jump. Luke Rathgeb was 12th in the boys mile.
