Britain at Bay: The Epic Story of the Second World War, 1938-1941
Tuesday, January 26 at 7:00pm to 8:00pm
via Zoom
Tune in for an overview of Great Britain at the onset of World War II. Syracuse University Professor Alan Allport presents the military and political dimensions of the crucial first years of Britain at war. Could the war have been avoided? Were the strategic decisions the rights ones? What difference did the war make in the end to the fate of the nation? These are just some of the essential questions answered along with an intimate look at the changes in wartime British society and culture. Find out how Great Britain and its people were permanently transformed by the Second World War.
Britain at Bay: the Epic Story of the Second World War, 1938-1941, explores these topics in depth. It is the latest book by author Allport who has previously written about the experience of the British soldier during World War II in Browned Off and Bloody-Minded and the story of British servicemen returning home after the war in Demobbed. Specializing in modern British and European history, Allport is an Associate Professor at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
