The Fayetteville Village Board gave Tom Miller, the village justice for the past 12 years, a proper send off on Dec. 17. Miller is stepping down after winning a seat on the Onondaga County Court bench in November’s election.
“[Trustee Dan Kinsella] and I spent four hours interviewing some people to replace Tom, it’s been a very difficult thing to do,” Olson said during the board meeting at Village Hall where Tom, his family, the village trustees and community members gathered. “And Tom went upstairs and looked at the court bench and looked at his job as judge … and he said he never knew it was going to be this hard. That said a lot about the man, so I just wanted to thank you publicly for everything you’ve done for this village.”
But first, the mayor read the following proclamation:

Thomas J. Miller has been both a longtime resident and a respected elected official of the Village of Fayetteville; and
Whereas
Thomas and his wife, Martha, along with their six children have been involved with the village, the local schools, Little League, and the fire department; and
Whereas
Thomas is a very respected representative of the legal profession demonstrated through his law practice and mentoring law students for the past 30 years; and
Whereas
His career has been highlighted with achieving the highest ratings by the Onondaga County Bar Association, the CNY Women’s Bar Association and the NYS Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission; and
Whereas
In addition, Thomas has honorably served the last 12 years as the Village Justice of Fayetteville, in an esteemed manner unparallel to any other.

Now, Thomas’ accomplishments have been recognized by others, and he will be stepping down as Village Justice to accept the elected position of County Court Judge.

I Mark A. Olson, Mayor of the village of Fayetteville, due hereby thank Thomas J. Miller for his dedication to the Village of Fayetteville since December 1, 2001. Tom’s love and knowledge for his job set a level that few people will ever be able to equal. On behalf of the citizens of Fayetteville, it is my honor and pleasure to wish him all the best as he enters into this new phase of his life and wish him and his family all the best.
