Within a seven-day span, track and field teams from Cicero-North Syracuse, Liverpool and Baldwinsville would compete in three high-profile events, all within their neighborhood.
What started last Thursday in the SCAC Metro division championships (won by the Liverpool girls and C-NS boys) continued at Bragman Stadium two days later with the 20th edition of the C-NS Invitational.
And while some top performers rested for the ensuing Section III Class AA meet, the host Northstars won the girls competition with 132 points to Liverpool’s 118.66, with B’ville third.
C-NS’s Brooke Blaisdell won the long jump, going 17 feet 6 ½ inches, and added a triple jump title with 38’2”. Blaisdell also was third in the 100 hurdles in 16.18 seconds, with Savannah Kuhr fourth. Kaley Bristow topped 8 feet in the pole vault for second place.
In the girls 800-meter run, the Northstars had freshman Morgan Kingdeski win in 2:26.52, with Allison Newton second in 2:30.52. Then eighth-grader Marissa Navarra won the 3,000-meter run in 11:16.55.
The Northstars won the 4×800 relay uncontested, but the 4×400 was contested as Hannah Boyle, Jamie Wagner, McKenna Slate and Sarah Davis prevailed in 4:09.28, with Liverpool third.
Liverpool had Amina Sinclair again clear 5’6” in the high jump to win over C-NS’s Liliana Klemanski, who was second with 5’1”. Then Imahni Sinclair threw the shot put 33’9” to prevail as Madyson Oliveri was third with 31 feet.
Kali Hayes win the 100 hurdles in 15.75 seconds over Blaisdell and Kuhr, with Gabby McCarthy going 5:07.89 to beat out teammate Emily Neuner (5:11.49) as they went 1-2 in the 1,500-meter run, Rosie Petrella taking third place in the 3,000.
Windsor Ardner went 1:00.36 to prevail at 400 meters, where C-NS’s McKenna Slate was fourth. Sydney Carlson was second in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:34.72, with Newton third in 7:40.63 as Eva Woodworth got third place in the 800 in 2:32.76.
B’ville’s girls handled sprints, Lauren Addario going 12.97 seconds to prevail in the 100-meter dash, with Courtney Bostic (13.66) fifth as Karen Ekure won the 200-meter dash in 25.96 seconds, with Boyle third (27.49) for C-NS and Wagner fifth.
Addario also was a close second to Blaisdell in the triple jump, going 37’10”, and joined Ekure, Bostic and Courtney Clute to win the 4×100 relay in 50.67 seconds, with no one else breaking the 52-second mark as C-NS (53.07) was third.
Justus Holden-Betts went 1:06.46 in the 400 hurdles to beat out Hayes (1:08.17) and Madison Neuner (1:08.18), while C-NS had Kuhr fourth and Shannon Brown sixth.
Jenna Wallace was victorious in the discus, her throw of 97’8” beating out Imahni Sinclair’s second-place 88’5”. Ella Smith cleared 8 feet in the pole vault, finishing third.
The boys C-NS Invitational had the host Northstars earn 64 points, three behind winning Utica Proctor (67), while Liverpool was third and B’ville only had 30 points, but that included Jon Foromza, Michael Lawrence, Nick Kruger and Connor Waldron posting a season-best 3:28.81 to win the 4×400 relay.
As for C-NS, Nathan Poirier again won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, his time of 9:54.91 the only one under 10 minutes, and he helped the Northstars finish second in the 4×800 in 8:30.19.
Ryan Dupra topped 6’3” in the high jump, one inch behind Henninger’s Kwamere White (6’4”). Christian Carlin ran the 800 in 2:00.79 to grab third place, while Tyler Murray was fourth in the 400 sprint in 54.19 seconds.
Liverpool had Jake McGowan tear to victory in the 3,200-meter run in 9:48.30, with Nick Brancato second in 9:54.96 as C-NS landed Matt LeClair in fourth place and Brad Laquidari in sixth place.
Jacob Barnes, throwing the shot put 46’8 ¾”, beat out C-NS’s Andrew Culver, who was second with 46’ ¼”, and Barnes added a second-place discus throw of 133’9” as Culver (115’7”) was fifth.
Spencer Ruediger went2:00.16 to finish second in the 800. Ethan Glashauser was fourth and Kyle Potrzeba fifth in the steeplechase, with Ryan Cartwright fifth and T.J. Praschunus sixth in the mile.
B’ville, aside from its relay success, had Mike Letizia second in the 100 in 11.54 seconds, while C-NS’s Josh Adams was fourth. Letizia, Anthony Delvecchio, Malik Davis and Sam Mellinger were second in the 4×100 in 45.31 seconds as Aidan Priest cleared 11 feet in the pole vault to finish fifth.
