To the editor:
I am writing to express my support for Lysander Town Clerk Dina Falcone. I have been working with Dina since she was appointed town clerk this past May. I was so impressed at how smoothly things ran from her very first day on the job.
A town clerk needs to remain as non-political as possible. It is not a position that acts as a check and balance to the town board, as her opponent in this race maintains; in fact that is the last thing a town clerk should be. Town clerks serve the residents and their communities in all of the services provided to residents. They take and prepare accurate minutes of all town board meetings and they do so in an absolutely unbiased, non-political way. Whatever opinions they have about what the town ought to do about issues at hand, they know that as a town clerk it is not in the job description by New York state for this position, to express them from that office. They work on the front line when members of the public come in with particular needs, and they keep abreast of things that seem necessary to help in that regard. Case in point was Dina, completely on her own, coordinating a donation program to help the Central New York SPCA after their problems with their director and finances surfaced a few months back. That is an indication of a person who cares for her community.
In all of these functions, Dina has done exemplary work and proven to me how objective and unbiased she is. It is clear as a bell that, regardless of who or what party is on the town board, she will continue to do that level of exemplary work.
I hope you will vote to keep Dina as our town clerk on Election Day.
