Now that summer is winding down and the Kennedy Park swimming pool is closed for the season, the Village of North Syracuse Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for fall.
Yoga program
The village’s weekly hatha yoga classes will continue at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday at the North Syracuse Community Center, located at 700 S. Bay Road. Teresa Roth, director of parks and rec, said classes will be split up into beginner and intermediate levels.
The class is for people ages 15 and older and will incorporate breathing techniques, deep stretches and poses to improve body alignment and encourage relaxation. The cost for 10 weeks is $55 for village residents, $70 for non-residents or $8 per single class.
Flu shot clinic
The village will host pharmacists from the local Rite Aid to administer flu vaccinations from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 8 at the community center. Most health insurances cover flu shots with no co-pay, so bring your insurance card. Call Rite Aid at 458-3363 with any questions.
Zumba Gold
Older adults who would like to work out but would prefer a lower-impact class can sign up for Zumba Gold. Weekly classes will be held starting 8:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, and 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14. The cost is $5 per class for residents and $6 for non-residents. Instructors Terri and Annmarie say, “Bring water, wear sneakers and bring a smile.”
HappyFeet soccer academy
Global Premier Soccer (GPS) Syracuse and HappyFeet are offering a four-week skills academy to children ages 4 to 10. Kids can sharpen their technical abilities, teamwork and tactics for the upcoming soccer season. The program takes place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. each Thursday from Sept. 15 to Oct. 6 at Heritage Park, 322 Chestnut St. The cost is $50 per child. Register at happyfeetsyracuse.com. Spaces are limited.
Line dancing
Country fans, rejoice: Sharon Dellinger will offer six weeks of lunchtime line dancing lessons at the community center. Classes take place from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 21 to Oct. 26. The cost is $35 for village residents and $40 for non-residents.
