An original poem by Josephine Schanzenbach of Baldwinsville
Hillsides ablaze with vibrant color –
Red, orange and green;
Brown, gold and yellow.
Flocks of geese dotting
the clear, Autumn sky
Flapping their wings
as if waving good-bye.
Leaves hanging on to the last breath
of life; then gracefully falling –
The ending of strife.
What reason; what purpose
are we being shown –
Trees without foliage standing naked,
Alone?
Snowflakes descending from
dark clouds above
Covering defilement with purity
and love.
Tree limbs now clothed
in their robes of white –
Glistening like diamonds.
A beautiful sight!
Nature’s repose shrouded by snow –
But, Spring is coming,
Don’t you know?
The sun has melted the white,
ground cover.
Geese once again in the sky do hover.
Buds now appear on branches once more.
Flowers burst forth in splendor galore!
Trees again donning their garments of green
Nature’s renewal –
A sight to be seen!
