To the editor:
As part of their orientation day, incoming Cazenovia eighth grade students each spent an hour as stewards of green spaces and trails in Cazenovia. With great energy and enthusiasm, the students hauled brush, picked up garbage and cleared trails as well as the banks of Chittenango Creek. Some even worked with Caz College Environmental Studies students to assess fish populations in Carpenter’s Pond.
Accompanied by older students, high school staff and volunteers from the Cazenovia Preservation Foundation, the visual improvement made in two hours was impressive. Thanks to the school district for valuing community service and thanks to the students for making a difference!
