To the editor:
For all the controversy the Aldi facility at the east end of the village has caused, I have been surprised and disappointed about the apparent lack of discussion concerning the blight of Colligan’s Corner (the empty threesome of the old gas station, Quality Auto Care, and NAPA). It sits near the heart of “downtown” Cazenovia, what I suspect most people see as the quaint, aesthetic, Cazenovia so often bragged about, while the Aldi’s site appears out of the village to most.
No doubt there are barriers to tearing them down and/or building a new development on the site. Is there any active discussion — private, non-governmental organization or governmental — about what to do with the site? Will it sit there as is until it can be declared a historic preservation site? Is there fear a local lawyer will sue no matter what is proposed?
