To the editor:
The Fayetteville-Manlius Neighbors and Newcomers Clubs would like to welcome new members of the Fayetteville Manlius area as well as our neighbors who have been here from a few to many years. This club is not limited to the Fayetteville-Manlius area, and we invite those who are from surrounding areas to join us. F-M Neighbors and Newcomers is a nonprofit, social and civic organization that was established to allow both new and long-time residents to become acquainted with others in the community.
Our organization contributes each year to the Manlius and Fayetteville libraries and other local not-for-profit organizations. For the 2016-17 club charity, we have chosen East Syracuse Minoa School District’s Three Steps Forward Fund. This fund helps families in the ESM district who have immediate needs such as clothing, prescription drugs, personal hygiene items, school items (fees for exams, calculators, review books) and other things that families may not readily be able to afford. We have also donated to F-M Community Outreach, Clear Path for Veterans, Meals on Wheels and Manlius Historical Society.
Monthly luncheons are popular, as are our potluck events, dining out nights and gourmet dinner group; the weekend breakfast club provides yet another opportunity to get together. Wine tastings are a great way to socialize and learn a little about wine at the same time. For the active, exerobics and hiking will keep you moving. Cross-country skiing is popular during the snowy season. Cards and games (dominos, canasta, bridge, bunco, scrabble, and pinochle) are also popular. The gardening group hosts hands-on events, visits regional gardens of note and attends other green thumb events. Our members enjoy a variety of some of the regional attractions (discover Central New York and attend cultural events) while our book club will help you explore current and past books with lively discussions.
All the clubs are about supporting its members and finding ways for people in our surrounding area to connect through their mutual interests. Contact information for each activity is included on our webpage: fmneighbors.org. Please join us. We would like to get to know you.
