Visitors to Alexandria Bay and other favorite stops in the Thousand Islands area often get on the boat that travels to Boldt Castle.
This year, the popular spread that fills Heart Island opens on May 12.
Liverpool Public Library patrons can get their fill of stories about the past, present and future of the property at “The Man Behind Boldt Castle,” a program from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 8, in the Carman Community Room. Nate Sourwine, operations manager of the property, will preside.
Sourwine will talk about George Boldt, who designed the castle as his family’s dream summer home in 1900.
Boldt was the proprietor of the world famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan. He envisioned the Rhineland castle as the perfect spot for his beloved wife, Louise. And so the painstaking work began by 300 on 120 in six stories. The grandeur took shape until …
