May, which is Older Americans Month, continues to be very busy and exciting at Canton Woods. The theme for 2017 is Age Out Loud. Canton Woods is the perfect place to Age Out Loud! The center is offering a very full schedule for Older Americans Month. In addition to our regularly scheduled events, the month offers music, art, health and wellness and local author Sean Kirst.
Canton Woods Summer Entertainment Series continues with Chef Moul! Chef Barbara Moul will once again visit Canton Woods at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 1. Chef Moul will demonstrate “A Dinner on a Budget.” This event is sponsored by Canton Woods Senior Activity Group. Call (315) 638-4536 to make your reservation.There are sure to be tasty samples!
The Village Singers will provide entertainment at 3:15 p.m. Friday, May 19, and the Baldwinsville Community Band will perform a patriotic concert at 7 p.m. May 24.
Art Group meets at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, at Canton Woods. This group is facilitated by retired B’ville art teacher, Mike Conway. The group focuses on drawing and painting. Bring your sketchbook and art supplies.
The Art Group will have their first show in May at Canton Woods! The reception will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 16.
Book Club is set to gather at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 16. The book for May is “My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry,” By Fredrik Backman. Get reading, and join the lively discussion!
2017 Health and Wellness Event is from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 25. This event is free and open to the public. Several local venders will be at Canton Woods with helpful information and fun giveaways.
Syracuse columnist and author Sean Kirst will present his book “The Soul of Central New York: Syracuse Stories” at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 31. Plan to attend this dynamic presentation with a distinct local focus.
Bottoms Up: A Short History of Brewing in Syracuse will be brought to you by the Onondaga Historical Association. As the Historical Association’s program description states, beer has been made in the Syracuse area since as early as the 1790s. This program reviews its local history, ties to various ethnic neighborhoods, struggles with the Temperance Movement and the Depression and its revival in the late 20th century with both local brewpubs and national industrial giants. This interesting program is slated 3 p.m. Thursday, June 22.
The AARP Defensive Driving class. The next available class is Thursday, June 8. The class is 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Classes fill up quickly. Call Canton Woods for more information and to sign up (315) 638-4536.
Senior Nutrition. You can enjoy lunch at the center. Canton Woods is a senior nutrition lunch site on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Make a reservation at (315) 638-4536 and stop by at noon for lunch. The nutrition program is open to anyone 60 years of age and older. Suggested donation is $3.
Wondering what’s for lunch? On Wednesday, May 24, the menu includes fajita beef with sautéed bell peppers and onions, rice and beans and diced pears. Make a reservation and join us for lunch!
