May is Older Americans Month. The theme for 2017 is Age Out Loud. Canton Woods is the perfect place to Age Out Loud! The center is offering a very full schedule for Older Americans Month. In addition to our regularly scheduled events, the month offers music, art, health and wellness and local author Sean Kirst. Make May your month to participate in everything your center has to offer, and you will have a great month!
Canton Woods Summer Entertainment Series continues with a performance by Baldwinsville’s own George Leija ….. Where great entertainment meets great fun! We welcome George back to Canton Woods to perform at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 11. This is a free concert.
The Village Singers will provide entertainment at 3:15 p.m. Friday, May 19, and the Baldwinsville Community Band will perform a patriotic concert at 7 p.m. May 24.
Art Group meets at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, at Canton Woods. This group is facilitated by retired B’ville art teacher, Mike Conway. The group focuses on drawing and painting. Bring your sketchbook and art supplies. The Art Group will have their first show in May at Canton Woods! The reception will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 16.
Book Club is set to gather at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 16. The book for May is “My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry,” By Fredrik Backman. Get reading, and join the lively discussion!
2017 Health and Wellness Event is from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 25. This event is free and open to the public. Several local venders will be at Canton Woods with helpful information and fun giveaways.
Syracuse columnist and author Sean Kirst will present his book “The Soul of Central New York: Syracuse Stories” at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 31. Plan to attend this dynamic presentation with a distinct local focus.
The AARP Defensive Driving class scheduled for Tuesday, May 9, is full.The next available class is Thursday, June 8. The class is 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Classes fill up quickly. Call Canton Woods for more information and to sign up (315) 638-4536.
Canton Woods now has a medication return collection unit. This is a safe and environmentally-friendly way to dispose of your unused medications. You may drop off your unused medication to the return box at Canton Woods from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Senior Nutrition. You can enjoy lunch at the center. Canton Woods is a senior nutrition lunch site on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Make a reservation at (315) 638-4536 and stop by at noon for lunch. The nutrition program is open to anyone 60 years of age and older. Suggested donation is $3.
Wondering what’s for lunch? On Friday, May 19, the menu includes tropical fruit glazed ham, Yukon gold potatoes with sliced onions, roasted fresh zucchini, fresh cantaloupe and fresh baked whole wheat roll. Make a reservation and join us for lunch!
