Multiple student artists from the Cazenovia Central School District recently received awards during the 2018 Scholastic Art Show, which is currently taking place at the Whitney building at Onondaga Community College.
The show opened Thursday, Jan. 11, with a ceremony for silver and gold key winners, and will run through Friday, March 2.
The competition begins at the state level within regions. There were over 5,500 works of art submitted from the Central New York region, which is the second largest region in the national competition.
Cazenovia had 45 students participate in this year’s competition, who submitted 107 individual works of art. Nine of those were seniors who also submitted an eight-piece portfolio representative of their work as artists throughout their career at Cazenovia.
Gold Key winners’ work will now advance to national judging in New York City, with the winners to be announced on March 13.
Prints of the submitted work are currently displayed outside the Cazenovia High School main office.
In addition to the OCC show, all of the Cazenovia participants and winners will be honored with an art show at the New Woodstock Library from April 23 to May 25. The opening reception will be 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 30.
