SKANEATELES — Skaneateles fifth-grade student Dawson Lynn is making a difference in the Skaneateles community with her artistic talent and dedication to her watercolor card company, Cosette’s Cards.
You may have seen some of her cards on display at local businesses who have purchased them, but it’s not just about that for Dawson- she donates 10% of her sales to animal shelters in honor of her dog, Cosette.
“I paint watercolor cards and then I sell them on Instagram and sidewalk sales,” Lynn said in an interview on the school district website.
Lynn said she has also taken to personalizing orders and making cards to accommodate special requests.
The business, Cosette’s Cards, derives its name from Lynn’s dog, Cosette.
“Its named after my dog,” Lynn said.
Cosette, sadly, has since passed, but Lynn wanted to honor the memory of her special friend.
She has also decided to use her business as a way to not only honor her pet, but to help other animals.
A portion, 10 percent, of her sales are donated to animal shelters and other efforts to help animals in need.
Sue Barry, Lynn’s art teacher, said Lynn stands out as a student who truly enjoys art and Barry has been impressed to see her student turn her passion for art into a business.
“I was flabbergasted,” Barry said. “She is a fantastic kid. You want 100 of her in your class. If I could multiple her I would. She is kind, attentive and tries her best. I am fortunate to have her.”
Lynn said she is happy to see the response her work is receiving and that she decided to start a business because she wanted to take on the responsibility and has come to love what she does.
Locally Lynn’s cards can be found at Nest 58 and pride+joy. Cosette’s Cards can also be found on Instagram.
