MARCELLUS — The Marcellus Central School District took home 10 prizes, including two national honors, during the 2021 Central New York Scholastic Art Awards Ceremony.
Kade DeMarle won a national gold medal for her photo, Strike a Pose (shown below), while Leanna Foster received a national silver medal for her photo, Flowing Thoughts (at bottom). Gold medal recipients are typically invited to receive their award at Carnegie Hall in New York City, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be an online ceremony and virtual exhibit instead.
National awards are chosen after the local competitions are judged. Any work receiving a gold key in the CNY region moves on to be judges nationwide by a variety of professionals in the art field. Only 10 percent of the gold key work gets awards nationally.
“We are so happy for our students,” Marcellus High School Visual Arts Teacher Tara Charles said. “We see the work, creativity and commitment they pour into their art and we are proud of all of them on a daily basis. It is exciting to see some of them recognized by professional artists on a local and level.”
