Cazenovia school district voters Tuesday approved the proposed district budget and two additional propositions by wide margins, as well as reelected two school board members to their seats.
Residents approved by a vote of 385 to 62 the district’s $28,426,155 budget, which included a 1.28 percent spending increase and a 4.8 percent tax levy increase. The tax levy increase did come in under the state-mandated tax cap.
The budget approval will affect taxpayers with a tax of $17.78 per $1,000 of assessed value, or $1,778 on every $100,000 of assessed value. This is an increase of 81 cents per every $1,000 of assessed value over last year’s budget.
Also approved by voters on May 16:
•Proposition to authorize the district to borrow funds to purchase four replacement school buses at a maximum cost of $438,895. The borrowed funds will be paid back over a five-year period. The district will receive state aid on the purchase. The proposition was approved by a vote of 400-48.
• Proposition to authorize the levy of a library tax to support the Cazenovia Public Library in the amount of $402,079 and the New Woodstock Free Library in the amount of $164,142 for a total of $566,221. The proposition was approved by a vote of 386-63.
Board of Education members Jan Woodworth and Leigh Baldwin, both running unopposed, were reelected to third terms in their seats. Woodworth received 395 votes and Baldwin received 397 votes.
“Thank you to voters in the Cazenovia school district who supported our district budget, our buses, our libraries and our school board members,” said Woodworth, who is currently board president.
