The Cazenovia High School Mock Trial team is heading to the county finals for the third year in a row.
Both the quarter final round against Christian Brothers Academy and the semi-final round against East Syracuse-Minoa were hard-fought victories with the Caz team trying out new strategies and facing some significant push-back from the other teams, according to coach Elizabeth Koennecke. The best judging of the season came from a volunteer who had competed in high school, college and law school, offering the Cazenovia students strategies for “playing the game.” The past week has been spent by the Lakers honing the arguments and preparing to respond to objections.
The team will compete against Fayetteville-Manlius High School on April 12 in a rematch from last year and will be presenting the Plaintiff’s side of the case. The students will travel to the Onondaga County Courthouse in downtown Syracuse and will argue the case again before New York State Supreme Court Justice Deborah Karalunas.
