Cazenovia resident Pete Way named the college’s new director of athletics and recreation
Cazenovia College is pleased to announce the appointment of alumnus Pete Way as the new director of athletics and recreation for the Wildcats effective August 1. Previously serving as the senior associate director of athletics at Cazenovia College since 2013, Way’s responsibilities included overseeing areas of compliance, fundraising, sponsorship, and student-athlete recruitment.
Prior to working within the college’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, Way served as the director of the Cazenovia Fund within the college’s Division of Institutional Advancement from 2006 to 2013. As director of the Cazenovia Fund, Way directed annual giving strategies to raise more than $500,000 annually and worked on the College’s comprehensive $10 million capital campaign.
As a member of the college’s coaching staff, Way served as Cazenovia’s head baseball coach, a position held since 2006, winning North Eastern Athletic Conference championships in both 2008 and 2009.
Actively involved in the Cazenovia College community, Way is a member of The 1824 Society and was the recipient of the Ellie Wilson Award, in recognition of his devotion, loyalty and service to Cazenovia College.
“I am extremely grateful for the people that I have had the pleasure of working with throughout my experiences at Cazenovia College,” said Way. “Those experiences have helped me to form the values and commitment I hope to further develop within our athletic programs.”
A 2003 graduate of Cazenovia College, Way majored in business management with an emphasis on sport management. Prior to Cazenovia, Way earned his A.A.S. from Herkimer County Community College in general studies. A four-year student-athlete, Way played an integral role on Cazenovia’s 2002 NEAC Championship baseball team and while at Herkimer, helped the Generals reach the 2001 NJCAA regional tournament for the first time in 15 years.
Additional administrative changes include the appointment of Ed Goodhines as the new senior associate director of athletics, having served as the college’s interim director of athletics since mid-April. Goodhines will continue to serve in his role as head coach of Cazenovia College’s men’s soccer program.
With Way assuming his new role, Cory Schad will take over as the new head coach of Cazenovia College’s baseball program. Schad, a former standout on the Cazenovia College baseball team, has been an assistant coach since 2012. He will also continue to serve in his role as athletics marketing specialist.
