Donald Irwin Fifield, 98, of Pinehurst, NC, passed away on July 29, 2020 at FirstHeatlh Moore Regional Hospital.
Don was born in Bellow Falls, VT, on Nov. 11, 1921, to the late Irwin and Martha Gilmore Fifield. He graduated Bellow Falls High School in 1939.
Upon graduation from Bryant University he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 24, 1942. He was assigned to Naval Intelligence 1st Naval District.
He joined USS Knox (APA46) upon commission on March 4, 1944. Arrived in Pearl Harbor, Honolulu in April 1923. He was authorized to wear six Bronze Stars earned in Asiatic-Pacific area.
Don married his wife Andree (also in the Navy) on Oct. 1, 1945. He was honorably discharged Oct. 29, 1945. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage prior to her passing.
He joined Campbell Soup in Chicago in 1949, and transferred to Boston, Albany and Skaneateles. He resigned in 1962, joined ConAgra Foods as regional sales manager and transferred to New England, living in Rye, NH. He retired in December of 1986, after moving to Pinehurst in 1982.
A celebration of life service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, at Boles Funeral Home, 35 Parker Lane, Pinehurst, NC 28374. Inurnment was next to wife of 66 years in Arlington National Cemetery.
He is survived his daughter, Donna Fifield and husband Randy DeChene of Camillus; son Donald G. Fifield, Steamboat Springs, CO; and granddaughter Amy Doyle of Seattle, WA.
