On July 12, 2020, Merece H. Johnson, 93, of Lafayette Hill, PA, formerly of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully at Mather House at The Hill at Whitemarsh.
Merece Helen Holmgren was born in Henning, MN, Jan. 27, 1927, the daughter of Henry and Stella (Hanson) Holmgren.
Merece was a kind and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and a dear friend to many. She is survived by daughter, Kay Gagnon (Dwight) of Benton, ME; daughter Jill Schrimsher, (Jeff) of Hillsborough, N.C; son Mark Johnson (Margaret) of Ambler, PA; daughter Sue Wilson (Craig) of Allison Park, PA.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Dave, sister Jean Benson (Harvey), brother David Holmgren (Virginia), and grandson Ryan Johnson (Kate).
She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Fayetteville, actively participating in Church Circle and teaching Sunday school for years. Philomath, an educational community-based group, was very important to her. She was also an involved member of Brookside Garden Club.
Merece enjoyed traveling, sewing, woodworking and, especially, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Henning High School Scholarship Fund (H-545 Foundation, PO Box 463, Henning, MN 56551).
Due to pandemic concerns, there will not be a local public memorial service. A private family service will be held at a later date at the Bethel Methodist Cemetery in Renville County, Minnesota. Please share condolences at ciavarellifuneralhomes.com.
