Priscilla Jane “PJ” Lemp, 92, of Wilsonville, OR, formerly of Camillus and Skaneateles, passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, at SpringRidge in Oregon. Born in Peekskill on Jan. 17, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Jane Renz of Montrose, N.Y. and was a 1945 graduate of Hendrick Hudson High School. Following graduation from Syracuse University College of Fine Arts in 1949, she married Walter Donald Lemp, Sr. They lived in Skaneateles for 58 years where they raised their three children. PJ was an active participant in community civic events and of Skaneateles Elementary School, where she served as president of the PTA. For many years, she was a member of the Wednesday Book Club and Monday Evening Club and for over 50 years was a member of the Skaneateles Country Club.
Gardening was a strong interest for PJ from childhood, as she helped her father tend his vegetable and rose gardens. As a 51-year member of the Skaneateles Garden Club, she held many positions including president and had the special distinction of being an honorary member for life. During this time, she initiated a club newsletter titled “The Garden Dirt” which she wrote and published. Within the club, PJ created and conducted various tours visiting historic mansions and gardens. She especially enjoyed trips to Hudson Valley, PA, Delaware, as well as visiting the castles and gardens of England.
PJ was loved by all who met her. Her helpful ability to get the job done, many times behind the scenes, was appreciated by all.
Priscilla was predeceased by her first husband, Walter in 2007.
Surviving are her companion, Richard Johnson of OR; daughters, Christine (Dr. Neil) Swanson of OR and Kathleen Ann Andres of GA; son, W. Donald (Christy) Lemp Jr. of Skaneateles; grandchildren, Bethany (Ryan) Applegate, Ingrid (Dr. Chris) Anderson and Clayton (Timothea) Swanson, Caroline (Justin) Dewitt, W. Christian Lemp II, Michael and Daniel Lemp and 4 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Spring Ridge staff for the wonderful care they provided to PJ. and most importantly, to her loving, caring companion, Richard.
