Verna Marble, previously of North Syracuse, passed away on Jan. 1, 2019, at her summer home in Western New York surrounded by family. She was 99 years old. She is survived by her son James W Marble JR and daughter Cherie Marble Hills (Robert Portner), five grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a loving stepfamily from her second marriage.
Verna enjoyed her family, friends, bridge, dancing, swimming, walking and reading. She also loved to travel with her family and friends. She attended Andrews Memorial Methodist Church from the time she moved to North Syracuse in 1954 until its unfortunate closure.
Mrs. Marble began her teaching career at age 19 in Delevan, N.Y. At age 32 she began her North Syracuse career as a kindergarten teacher at Smith Road Elementary School where she taught until she retired. She loved children and she loved to teach. When out in the community she was constantly recognized by former students who would come up to speak to her and thank her. She still received letters and Christmas cards from her students and their families.
There will be a Celebration of her life from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at Parkrose Estates where she resided until she moved to Key West to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Please bring memories and stories of happy times. Parkrose Estates is located at 7251 Janus Park Road in Liverpool.
