Carl Nai-Wen Chou, our dear grandfather, father, and brother, died on the evening of Feb. 17, 2018, at the age of 93, in Katy, Texas. Originally from Beijing, China, Carl was a long time respected manager of mechanical engineering of heating/cooling systems at the Singer Co. in Auburn, and subsequently McQuay.
We remember him for his kindness, his sentimentality, his favored position among children due to his endless tricks, gentle teasing and other entertainments, his community-minded spirit as a member of Auburn’s Rotary Club, coaching ice hockey at the Skaneateles Rink he helped to build, and his ruthless tennis playing.
We also remember him for being the devoted other half to Fifi Young Chou for 40 years until we lost her in 1994, and for encouraging his children to leave the world a better place than when they entered it.
Many blessings to the wonderful people at Bethel Place who, in this same spirit, filled his final days with comfort and caring. He is survived by his wife Joy; his siblings Margot, Ruth, Dorothy and Henry; his children Cathy, Paul (Karen Huang), and Angell (John Zhao); and his grandchildren Sarah and Michael.
No service is planned at this time. Condolences may be sent to his wife: Joy Cheng, 9630 Cherry Quartz Ct., Katy, TX 77494.
