Nancy Carter Gillespie, 86, passed away after a long illness on Feb. 14, 2018, in Boynton Beach, FL.
Born in Syracuse on Nov. 16, 1931, she was the daughter of Thomas W. Carter, Sr and Anna Kincella Carter. As a child, she lived in Syracuse and Seneca Falls, N.Y., before the family moved to Baldwinsville. Nancy graduated from Baldwinsville Academy, Class of 1949 and Central City Business Institute.
On June 21,1952, she married John M. (Jack) Gillespie in St. Mary’s Church, Baldwinsville. They lived busy lives in Baldwinsville, raising their family until Jack retired from GE and Nancy retired from New York State Worker’s Comp. In 1988 they moved to Hernando, FL, where they kept busy with their hobbies, welcomed visiting friends and family and returned often to visit Baldwinsville in the summers.
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 2009, her sister, Mary Ellen in 1936 and brother, Timothy in 2007.
A devoted wife and mother and beloved grandmother, Nancy is survived by her six children: Mary Ellen (Paul) Hollis, Delray Beach, FL; James E. (Kathy) Gillespie, Baldwinsville; Joan (Jim) Duffy, Baldwinsville; Anne (Chris) Cywilko-Bolt, Syracuse; Barbara Gillespie, Elbridge; and John C. (Lori) Gillespie, Fort Worth, TX. She will be missed by her 14 grandchildren: Ariana Hollis Raub, Sam Hollis, David and Brian Gillespie, Michelle and Jason Bowman, Ryan Duffy and Katherine Duffy Case, Carter and Donovan Cywilko, James and Richard Cullipher, and Jordan and Jaclyn Gillespie; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Also survived by her brother, Thomas W. Carter, Jr., (Sally), Bolivia, NC, sister-in-law, Karen Peach Carter, White River Junction, VT and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery later this year.
