John Allen Hanley, of Caledonia, passed away on Jan. 22, 2018.
The son of William James Hanley and Ella Marie (Devereaux) Hanley, Mr. Hanley was born on Oct. 29, 1936, at the family home on 4 Chestnut St., now called Triangle Place, in Baldwinsville. After retiring from the Univeristy of Rochester Medical Center as a technologist in the Department of Neurology, he worked for 11 seasons at the Genesee County Village, a 19th Century Village and Museum near Mumford.
Mr. Hanley enjoyed classical music, baking, photograhpy, maintaining bluebird nesting boxes in a local park and the use of the nearby library. He avoided intrusive electronic gadgetry. A 1955 graduate of Baldwinsville High School, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer escort USS Kirkpatrick. He attended LeMoyne College, Syracuse and graduated with a bachelor’s degree. Mr. Hanley served in the Peace Corps in Nigeria as a teacher of physics and math from 1967-1969.
Predeceased by brother, James and sister, Marguaret Rose, he is survived by brothers, William Hanley of Nedrow, N.Y. and Francis Hanley of Columbia, PA; sisters, Mary Herndon of San Miguel, Mexico and Eleanor Hanley of Friendswood, TX and many nieces and nephews. A private interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Arrangements are by Alhart Funeral Home, Calendonia N.Y.
