Aloysius (“Al”) V. Vizgaitis (1939-2017), 77, of Fayetteville, passed away at his home on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, after a difficult battle with cancer.
Aloysius Vizgaitis was born in Vilkija, Lithuania, and later immigrated to Pembroke, Ontario, Canada, where he lived before moving to the U.S. He obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from St. Lawrence University, where he played for the ice hockey team and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in psychology from Syracuse University. Al worked primarily as a school psychologist, and retired in 2002 after more than 20 years with the Chittenango Central School District.

Surviving are his two daughters, Alexandra and Allison Vizgaitis.
Calling hours are 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Eaton-Tubbs-Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St. Fayetteville, followed by a celebration of Al’s life at the family home for close family and friends. His final resting place is in Fayetteville Cemetery.
