Irene V. Doyle passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center after bravely battling breast cancer for many years. Born Dec. 19, 1921, and raised in Springfield, MO, Irene received her bachelor’s degree in piano from Missouri Southwest University. She married Donald V. Doyle in 1946 and moved to Cazenovia, where she raised her family before moving to Fayetteville in 1979.
Her career in music began as a teenager and young adult, serving as an accompanist for church and choral groups. She taught private piano lessons in her home for 40 years. Following graduate studies at Syracuse University, she also taught music part-time in various schools. Irene loved music, theatre and gardening, was a voracious reader and puzzle enthusiast, participated in water aerobics, hiking and camping, and climbed 20 of the Adirondack High Peaks. Irene was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She touched the lives of those who knew her with her great strength of spirit and dedication to family and friends.
She is survived by four children, Donald B. Doyle, Linda J. Doyle (Nicholas R. Zabawsky), David R. Doyle and Anne M. Doyle; two nieces, Virginia Gettle and Carole Goodrich; grandchildren Nicholas Zabawsky and Alexander Zabawsky (Valerie), and great-grandchild, Maxim Zabawsky.
She was predeceased by her parents, George E. Burdette and Gertrude Burdette; her husband, Donald V. Doyle; daughter, Mary P. Doyle; and sisters, Annis L. Burdette and Geneva O. Mullings. Burial was held Monday, Aug. 15, in a private, graveside service at St. James Cemetery, Cazenovia. Ayer& Zimmer Funeral Home, Cazenovia, has arrangements; 655-8101.
