Clara A. Ammann, 99, of Cazenovia, passed away peacefully in Hoosick Falls, NY on Friday, May 13, 2016. Clara was born in Syracuse on Sept. 19, 1916 and was a graduate of Eastwood Schools.
She was known throughout the area for being an avid cake decorator and did hundreds of wedding and birthday cakes over the years. She taught many people how to make cake roses and brought joy to all. One of the things she was most proud of was her volunteering for 4-H of Madison and Onondaga County for many years. While a leader, she taught youth sewing, baking and life skills used today.
Clara was an avid sports fan. She loved playing games of any kind with her family and friends, and was known to be quite the card shark. When not traveling, baking or sewing, she could be found enjoying a game show on TV.
She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Karl. Clara was also predeceased by her parents, William and Mary Simmons; a sister, Mary and brothers Walter and William.
Clara is survived by her daughters, Carol Bayer, Rosemarie (John) Hnatow and Arlene (John) Luley; a sister, Ruth Davidowski, seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be private. Friends were asked to join the family for a memorial mass to be held at noon Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the family residence in Cazenovia, with a celebration of Clara’s life to immediately follow.
The Ammann family would like to thank Molly and her family for their love and care that they provided for Clara.
