Peter John Hopkins, a long time resident of Cazenovia, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016, surrounded by his family. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Nelly, his sons, Father Peter Hopkins, LC, Father Edward Hopkins, LC, Father John Hopkins, LC , Dr. Stephen Hopkins and his daughter, Sister Catherine Marie, OP.
Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1925, Peter grew up in Cazenovia and Denver, CO. He served in WWII in the combat infantry and was wounded during the Normandy and Brittany campaigns, receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He attended Syracuse University and Boston College Law School. He was admitted to the New York State Bar Association and practiced law for more than 50 years in Cazenovia and Chittenango. He was a co-founder of the New York State Conservative Party in the early 1960s. A man of integrity, he was deeply committed to his Catholic faith and his family. In 2006, he and his wife relocated to Nashville, TN. Services were in Nashville, TN on July 5.
