Florence Edith Toms, 91, of Liverpool and formerly of Elbridge, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2016, Good Friday, with her family by her side. She was born in Skaneateles on June 07, 1924. She graduated from Skaneateles High School, where she was a New York state tennis champion, and Central City Business Institute.
In 2004, Florence retired from The Temple Society of Concord as executive secretary. She was previously employed by the Rosemond Gifford Charitable Corp.
Throughout her life, Florence possessed the strength to acquire serenity to accept many personal, tragic, heartbreaking events that could not be changed; the courage to persevere and change those situations that she could and the wisdom to know the difference.
Her entire world revolved around her two children and 10 grandchildren, whereby she selflessly gave of herself to enrich their lives.
Florence was predeceased by her husband Robert C. Toms Jr.; daughter, Sandra Gail Toms; grandson, Christopher Toms; sister, Dorothy Heffernan; brothers, Harold Tuck, William Tuck, Earl Tuck.
Florence is survived by her son, Robert C. (Lori) Toms lll; daughter, Melanie Toms; granddaughters, Kira Larsen, Kristen Toms, Kaci Toms, Kori Toms; grandsons, Erik Larsen, Robert C. (Allison) Toms IV, Brett Larsen, Kyle Toms, Kevin Toms; nieces, Donna (Don) Voltz, Cathy (John) Alexander; nephews, Paul (Norma) Tuck, Edward Heffernan and her dear friend Marge Usiatynski.
A special thank you to Rabbi Sheldon Ezring for his everlasting friendship, devotion and inspiration that he has given to Florence and her family, for many years.
Florence’s family would also like to thank all of the caregivers at Elderwood at Liverpool for their kindness and compassion.
A memorial service celebrating Florence’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, at the Skaneateles Presbyterian Church, 97 East Genesee St. Skaneateles.
