Lawrence A. McGraw, 95, of Skaneateles passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the VA Medical Center with his family by his side.
Larry was the son of the late William and Mary (Flavin) McGraw of Marathon, NY. He was taught by his mother Mary in a one room school house from kindergarten through 8th grade. He went on to graduate from Marathon High School- Class of 1937. He faithfully attended every reunion thereafter.
Larry was a self-employed contractor/home builder. He was a member of the Limestone Creek Hunt Club, The Calvary Club, American Legion Post No. 239, and the Knights of Columbus. He served as an usher for many years at St. Mary’s of the Lake parish in Skaneateles. He also served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII, in England, Northern France and Central Europe.
Larry was a very independent man. He continued to drive, mow his three acres of land and stack wood right until his final days. When asked how he was doing, always replied, “Never been better.” In his final days he answered, “It could always be worse.”
He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years Josephine Cerio McGraw, along with his brother Jack and sister Anne Marie McGraw.
Larry is survived by his son Mark of Syracuse, daughter Lynn Davis Menotti of Skaneateles, daughter Terry (Paul) DiLauro of Henderson, NV; granddaughters Nicole (Dan) Olenych of Marcellus, Jenna DiLauro of Henderson, NV and Brittany (Ricky) Miller also of Henderson, NV. He is also the great grandfather of Oliver and Lucas Olenych.
Memorial mass of Christian burial: 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, in St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, 81 Jordan St., Skaneateles. Burial follows in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Skaneateles.
